“L’arte di descrivere”: Laura Giordani’s audio description handbook presented at the Italian Senate

On Friday 9 October 2026 the Italian Senate hosted the presentation of L’arte di descrivere. Manuale di audiodescrizione cinetelevisiva (The art of describing: a handbook of film and television audio description) by Laura Giordani, published by Editoriale Artemide. The press conference is available on the Senate WebTV.

The handbook brings together guidelines and good practice for writing audio descriptions for blind and partially sighted people: film and television, but also theatre, art, museums and places. The author talks about it in this article on PuntoEduca (in Italian).

In the part devoted to the audio description of places (pp. 316-317) there is Marco Scuderi’s contribution Creatività e tecnologia a servizio dell’accessibilità (Creativity and technology for accessibility), on technology serving a more inclusive society and on how Open Tale© came about.
